As essential oils get more popular and widely available, you may be asking yourself "Why Essentials? Do they really work and what can they do for me?". As I dabbled in aromatherapy in my early twenties this is a question that came up for me as well and I really didn't revisit it much until 20 years later when I needed to make some changes to improve both my physical and mental health.
Here are some of the reasons that I feel essential oils should be in everyone's home.
An Oil For Every Need - The variety of ways that the can be used. Essential oils cover the spectrum as far as what they can be used for and the benefits they have. Most essential oils can be used to address more than one issue/area that you need support with. For instance, Lavender essential oil not only helps with anxious feelings and sleep support but it is great for minor skin irritations like bug bites and can also be used to help support healthy skin. While many of us essential oil enthusiast have an arsenal of oils, you really can address most of your needs with just a core set of oils as they can be used for such a wide variety of things.
Lessen The Chemical Burden In Your Home -Essential oils can help lessen the chemical burden in your home. When you have essential oils in your home, you no longer have a need of artificial fragrances or chemical laden cleaning products which will greatly reduce the amount of chemicals that are present in your home. Products with fragrance and "traditional" cleaners often contain chemicals in them that build up over time and can negatively impact you and your family's health ranging from allergens, respiratory issues, hormone disrupters and carcinogens. Anytime you can lessen the use of these chemicals in your home is going to benefit you in the long run so in my opinion this is one of the most important reasons to use essential oils.
Emotional Support- Mental health matters and affects all aspects of our lives. Aromatherapy has been used for hundreds of years because it is effective. Your emotional support needs can change from day to day which is part of what makes essential oils so effective as you can customize the oil you use to support whatever emotion you are needing help with currently.
Natural Medicinal Alternative- Medications can have a slew of side effects some worse than the actual condition you are taking them for. This is not the case with essential oils. I think medication has a place in everyone's health and wellness but I also think it should not be the first option we turn to because of the long term effects it can have on our bodies. This is a real issue and one that needs more attention. Natural alternatives, like essential oils, are a great first line of defense and can take care of many small alignments on their own making it unnecessary to turn to chemical alternatives and their potential long term side effects.
These are just a few of the reasons on why I choose to use essential oils. Why do you use essential oils or what is stopping you from using them?
