Easy DIY Galaxy Inspired Glass Soap Using Melt & Pour

If you are looking for a fun and easy melt and pour soap project then I have the project for you :) Glass soaps typically use a clear melt and pour base and embeds or micas to create a shadow box in soap form. For this project, we will be using mica to create the design but you could also make soap embeds to create the design or use botanicals. The possibilities are truly endless. I decided to scent the soap with Ylang Ylang essential oil for a light floral scent, but you can use any scent that you like. You’ll just want the essential or fragrance oil to be mostly clear as to not discolor the melt and pour.

For this project you will need:

Popsicle Stick

To Make:

  1. Measure out 20oz of clear melt and pour soap and cut into small chunks. Place inside a microwave safe container

  2. Next you will want to add about about 1/8-1/16 of mica in 4-5 colors into each cavity of a silicone mold. I used bright neon colors but any micas will work. You will want to place the micas randomly in the cavities, no need to try for any pattern.

  3. Now heat your melt and pour in the microwave in 30 second intervals until completely melted

  4. Once melted add in your Ylang Ylang essential oil(or essential oil of choice) and stir thoroughly.

  5. Now you are going to pour the melt and pour into each cavity of the mold filling approximately 3/4 of the way.

  6. Now comes the fun 🤩 part. Take your popsicle stick and start to swirl it through the micas and liquid melt and pour. You want to make sure you get some soap under all of the mica so it does leave dry mica deposits on top of the soap. Swirl as much or as little as you like.

  7. Finish filling the rest of the mold cavities and then spritz the top with isopropyl alcohol to pop any air bubbles that may have formed.

  8. Let set up for 4-6 hours and then your soap is ready to use.

  9. I suggest shrink wrapping your soaps once removed from the mold to keep them protected until you are ready to use them.
