DIY Sugar Scrub Bars

Sugar scrubs are a great way to exfoliate and moisturize your skin but they can be messy and leave your tub in need of a good cleaning after each use. For this reason I prefer to use a sugar scrub bar. You get the exfoliation and moisturizing power of a sugar scrub without the messy clean up. These bars are easy to whip up and they also make great gifts. I use Eucalyptus and Lemon essential oils to scent this recipe with as they give the bars a clean fresh scent but you could choose other oils if you like or leave the bar unscented.

For this recipe you will need:

1 cup white sugar

Spoon for stirring

  1. Add your 1/2 cup clear melt and pour soap base, soap colorant and 1/4 cup coconut oil to a microwave safe container.

  2. Heat in 30 second intervals until completely melted and then stir to combine

  3. Next add in your 20 drops Eucalyptus essential oil and 10 drops Lemon essential

oil and stir again. You can add more or less essential oil depending on your scent preferences. Just be sure not to exceed safe usage rates. If you are unsure of how much oil to use there are websites available like eocalc.com that can assist you with usage rates.

4. Now add in your cup of white sugar and stir until thoroughly combined. Mixture should have a slushy consistency. Once you hit this consistency, you need to be ready to pour as your mixture will start to firm up quickly from here. If your mixture gets too thick to pour, heat it up again for around 15 seconds and then you should be able to pour it in your mold.

5. Pour into your silicone mold and allow to set up for 2-4 hours before removing from the mold. Now your sugar scrub bar is ready to use.
