Best Essential Oils For Focus

We all have those times in our lives or our kids lives where we could use some help focusing on the task at hand, whether it's a big work project, doing your monthly budget or for your kids getting their homework done at night. There is nothing worse when your trying to focus and you just keep finding your mind wandering to other things.

Whenever I really need to concentrate on the task at hand, I turn to essential oils for help. I like that they are a natural way to keep my mind sharp and grounded in whatever it is I am working on.

Below you will find my top 5 essential oils for focus/concentration. I find the best way to use these oils to aid in focus and concentration is aromatically by using a diffuser or by applying the oils topically.

  • Bergamot Essential Oil - Bergamot aids in interrupting the cycle of stress response and restoring mental function. Studies have also shown that Bergamot can aid in balancing your mood which will aid in concentration. This oil is a great one to diffuse and can be applied topically with a carrier oil.

  • Lemon Essential Oil - Is there anything Lemon essential oil can't do? Besides it's cleaning and skin support properties Lemon is a great oil to diffuse to keep you mentally alert which will make it easier for you to focus on the task at hand.

  • Frankincense Essential Oil - Frankincense is a very grounding oil. It's great for diffusing during meditation or studying and can also be applied topically with or without a carrier oil for adults(Frankincense should be diluted if being used on a child). I like to apply it to my temples and down the base of my neck.

  • Cedarwood Essential Oil - Cedarwood is a very calming oil and great for meditation. It is often used for sleep support for this reason. What makes it a great choice for focus and concentration is it's ability to help calm you down and stop any mental clutter that may be getting in the way of your ability to focus. A roller bottle of Cedarwood, Peppermint & Vetiver is great to roll on your temples and arms when you need to concentrate. This is also a great combo to diffuse when you really need to focus. Cedarwood also pairs really well with Lavender.

  • Peppermint Essential Oil - If you are in the afternoon slump and feeling the brain fog setting in Peppermint is your man. A study done by the University of Cincinnati found that smelling Peppermint helps with concentration during task that required sustained focus. One easy way to use Peppermint is to simply breathe it in straight from the bottle. It is amazing how just a little whiff can start to clear your brain. Peppermint is also great to use in a diffuser and pairs really well with Lemon for diffusing or applying topically.

  • GeneYus Essential Oil Blend - I know you may be asking yourself did she forget how to count. We were already at five essential oils. Maybe she needs another whiff of Peppermint. I assure you that is not the case, though I do love Peppermint:) I wanted to mention this blend as it is specifically designed for kids and is prediluted in case that is not something you feel comfortable doing yourself. This blend was designed to aid in focus, a positive environment and productivity. Bergamot, Cedarwood, Melissa & Frankincense are part of the oils in this blend along with others that aid in focus/concentration.

Give these oils a try the next time you have a big task at hand and I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how well these oils actually work.
